The Mako Sica bass features a brand new "reverse hook scroll" Xylem design. The pickups are Herrick "one humbucker per string pickups" (1HBPS), where each pickup has a single humbucker (two coils) dedicated to each string. This is the same pickup design that the famed Wal Basses use, which minimizes cross-talk between the strings and intermodulation distortion, making them excel in studio recording environments. The pickups are paired with a Lustihand Devices "Double NFP Special" preamp that is specifically designed to harness the capabilities of the 1HBPS design pickups via two resonant peak filters (one for each pickup). The Double NFP Special preamp also works very similarly to the stock preamps of Wal Basses. At certain settings the filters almost impart a "wah" effect to the tone of the pickups. These specialty pickups and preamp combine to generate a huge variety of different tones and a broad dynamic range. Many very unique sounds can be played with this bass, matching its very unique body shape.
